"Security corridor" shields Türkiye from terrorism: president

ANKARA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- By building a "security corridor" along the southern borders, Türkiye is successfully walling itself off from terrorism, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday.
"We are completely preventing the fire around us from spreading to our country by the security corridor we have started to create along our southern borders," Erdogan said, referring to a 30-40 kilometer deep security zone Türkiye is committed to creating along its borders with Iraq and Syria.
The Turkish forces often carry out cross-border operations against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) fighters in northern Iraq, and the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) fighters, which Ankara sees as the Syrian branch of the PKK group, in Syria.
The cross-border buffer zone designed by Türkiye aims to combat the threat of Kurdish separatism from both countries.
